3RD ANNUAL GRAFFITI & GRAPES SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER EXCEEDS GOAL!

November 25, 2018

Graffiti HeArt’s 3rd Annual Graffiti & Grapes Scholarship Fundraiser surpassed its goal this year, tripling last year’s results, with a record $31,000 raised for art scholarships for underserved youth! This year’s event was met with an increase in #BADASS, #TAG, and Naming Rights Sponsors, including returning sponsors Mary & Phil Borba, Fit Technology, Dealer Tire, and Avery Dennison, as well as first time sponsors, Russell Trusso Fine Jewelry, George Sesi, Parker Hannifin, Eaton, Jill & David Gaugh, and James Anderson & David Wittkowsky.

Performing participating Graffiti HeArt artists included Bob Peck and R!ch Cihlar (known as the #dontpanic collaborative), Randy Crider and James Giar (of the Rust Belt Monster Collective), Eileen Dorsey, Osman Muhammad (aka SWIMRCST), Miguel Garcia (aka Faderesistantartist), and Garrett Weider. Musical performance by Alexis Antes and closer, DJ Lee Majors, created the ambiance ripe for wine, live painting, and active bidding on some sweet auction items.

Special thanks go out to CLE Urban Winery for hosting the event for the third year, as well as to Culinary Occasions for donating an amazing catered spread, this year’s celebrity emcee, Dawn Kendrick, our java partner 3-19 Coffee, Toth Marketing for designing the #tough programs, and Consolidated Solutions for making them come to life, to our amazing volunteers and board members for their hard work, and for the many who attended and made donations from the sellout crowd!

Since 2015, Graffiti HeArt has been responsible for more than $50,000 in scholarships for underserved youth to the Cleveland Institute of Art Pre-College Program. This year’s fundraiser will make possible several additional scholarships for the 2019

Former scholarship recipient, Destyni Green, and her mother, Madena Green, gave their compelling story of how the Graffiti HeArt scholarship has helped create avenues to develop her talents further through education! “It’s an amazing school, and very diverse, and I really loved that”, shared Destyni. ”I got a scholarship from Graffiti HeArt the Summer before I was planning to go to CIA, a full scholarship. It really helped me get in (to CIA), and I’m there for the next 3 years.” Destyni’s mother shared her sediments afterwards, ”I just want to say thank you to Graffiti HeArt. I have known Destyni would become an artist. I want to say that Graffiti HeArt was definitely a life saver because you have your kids and you want to invest in them and sometimes life just doesn’t allow you to do that, and she wanted to go to the Pre-College Program and I knew I could not afford it. ‘They’ told us about Graffiti HeArt, and she totally came out of her shell. I think it gave her the confidence to apply to CIA, because before that it was just unreachable to her. They told her to pick a ‘reach’ school, and I know for sure that Graffiti HeArt made big steps in her getting into CIA and I will forever be grateful and indebted to you guys.”
