Late November of last year, an artist out of DC reached out to Graffiti HeArt sharing their story and the #waterislife tour that they were embarking upon. Shani Shi and her crew, were making their way to the Dakota Access Pipeline, starting in DC, and continuing on to Cleveland, Detroit, Flint, Chicago, Minneapolis, before the arrive to their final destination. Josh Usami, Cleveland Scene writer and artist, shared the story in the Cleveland Scene on December 7, 2016 Read Josh Usami Article.
Josh shared the following quote from Stamy Paul of Graffiti HeArt in the article,”I felt it was a perfect fit to what Graffiti HeArt is about, social expression through public graffiti mural art. There are many people in Cleveland interested in the DAPL situation and the media block and wondering how they can help those taking action in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux. By partnering with the Water is Life: DC Artists 2 collective, not only do they bring their #waterislife message to Cleveland, Graffiti HeArt is also able to help get the word out to help the artist collective along the way to the other four cities in route to Standing Rock.”
Many thanks to Shani Shi and her artists collective, Dr. Rafid Fadul for providing the wall, and Josh Usami for capturing this story in the Cleveland Scene!
